The song we play most at jaggo, mehndi and sangeet nights is Diljit Dosanjh's Sweetoo. It played at all 15 pre-wedding nights in our records, with Gupz Sehra's Label Black and PBN and Raj Bains's Phatte Chuk Di at 14. The night before a wedding is a different job from the wedding itself: smaller, louder, more family and much more Punjabi, with boliyan and folk-bhangra records that rarely come out at the reception. We wanted to see how different, so we counted.
Our booking records label 15 recent sets as pre-wedding nights: jaggos, mehndis, sangeets, pre-wedding parties and engagements, from 2023 to 2026. We matched each one to Prit Nasha's Serato history and counted which songs played at how many of those 15 nights, for at least a minute.
Fifteen nights is a small sample, so read this as a strong pattern rather than a rule. Some of the results are still hard to argue with.
Jaggo, mehndi and sangeet songs played at 10 or more of 15 nights
- Diljit Dosanjh, Sweetoo. All 15. Early to middle. The only song that played at every single one.
- Gupz Sehra, Label Black. 14.
- PBN and Raj Bains, Phatte Chuk Di. 14. It ranks far higher here than at weddings.
- Panjabi MC, Picha Ni Chad De. 13.
- DJ H ft. Lehmber Hussainpuri, Ishq Brandy. 13.
- Jaz Dhami ft. Yo Yo Honey Singh, High Heels. 13. Middle to late.
- Sharry Mann, 3 Peg. 13.
- Jags Klimax ft. Sarbjit Kaur, Heer. 12. Later in the night.
- DJ Dips ft. Kaka Bhainiawala, Lehmber Hussainpuri and Miss Pooja, Gerra De De. 11.
- Diljit Dosanjh, Kuwariyaan. 11.
- Lehmber Hussainpuri, Sadi Gali. 10.
- Panjabi MC, Moorni. 10. Early, as always.
- Vicky, Top Notch Gabru. 10.
- Punjabi By Nature, Aaj Me Peeni. 10.
- Diljit Dosanjh, Patiala Peg. 10.
The jaggo and boliyan classics
This is where the night before really separates from the wedding. These older folk-bhangra and boliyan records play far more often on these pre-wedding nights than at the wedding itself:
- Bally Jagpal, Nakhre Bin Soni Temi. 9 of 15 nights.
- H-Dhami, Har Gabroo. 8 nights, and all 8 in the first third. An opener.
- Indy Sagu ft. Surinder Shinda, Bari Kholkey. 8.
- DJ Sanj and Soni Pabla, Boli Panieh. 8.
- DJ H and DJ Rags ft. Nirmal Sidhu and Miss Pooja, Char Panj. 8.
- Malkit Singh, Jago Aaya. 7, mostly early.
- A.S. Kang, Valeti Boliyan. 7.
- Amar Arshi and Sudesh Kumari, Rangli Kothi. 7, mostly early.
- Malkit Singh, Mithe Ganne. 7, later in the night.
The numbers make the point. Jago Aaya played at 7 of these 15 nights, but in only 21 of the 526 sets in the whole history, so a third of its plays come the night before a wedding. Valeti Boliyan and Rangli Kothi lean the same way.
So if you are planning a jaggo, don't just hand your DJ your wedding playlist. The night wants boliyan and the folk classics your parents grew up with, and in our sets they usually go early in the night.
Crossover songs at a jaggo or sangeet
Even on the most Punjabi night of the week, people want a breather from bhangra. Drake's One Dance, Afro B's Drogba, Serani's No Games and Montell Jordan's This Is How We Do It each played at 8 of the 15 nights. For a sangeet with a mixed guest list, that crossover section matters even more.
Bollywood shows up too. Tera Rang Balle Balle played at 9 of the 15 nights and Kala Chashma at 6. At a mehndi or sangeet for a family that grew up on Hindi film music, expect that share to be bigger.
Planning several wedding functions
The pre-wedding night is part of a bigger arc. Our first destination wedding, at Lake Como in 2014, ran over three days: ceremony, sangeet and reception. We still plan multi-day weddings the same way, as one musical thread from the welcome dinner through to the recovery party, so the jaggo or sangeet builds towards the big night instead of repeating it.
That is why it helps to plan the pre-wedding music with the same DJ who plays the reception. If you are planning one, have a look at our Sangeet DJ and Mehndi DJ pages, or the Sikh wedding DJ page for the jaggo and the anand karaj day.
Questions about jaggo, mehndi and sangeet music
What songs are played at a jaggo?
At the 15 jaggo, mehndi, sangeet and pre-wedding nights in our records, Diljit Dosanjh's Sweetoo played at all 15. For the jaggo itself, the boliyan and folk-bhangra classics matter most: Malkit Singh's Jago Aaya, A.S. Kang's Valeti Boliyan, H-Dhami's Har Gabroo and Bally Jagpal's Nakhre Bin Soni Temi.
Is the music at a pre-wedding night different from the reception?
Yes. In our history, older boliyan and folk-bhangra records play far more often the night before. Malkit Singh's Jago Aaya played at 7 of 15 pre-wedding nights but in only 21 of the 526 sets overall.
Does a sangeet still need non-Punjabi music?
Yes. Even at these mostly Punjabi nights, Drake's One Dance, Afro B's Drogba and Montell Jordan's This Is How We Do It each played at 8 of the 15. Bollywood favourites such as Tera Rang Balle Balle also came up regularly.
Method: Counted from Prit Nasha's Serato history, 526 sets from 2020–2026. This post uses the 15 sets from 2023 to 2026 that our booking records label as a jaggo, mehndi, sangeet, pre-wedding party or engagement, and that left a full set in Serato. A song counts once per night, and only if it played for at least a minute. Versions of the same song are merged and credited to the original artist.
